Who’s the Chief?

jennieJennie Bricker is owner and principal of Brick Work Writing & Editing LLC. A licensed and practicing attorney since 1997, Jennie served as a federal judicial clerk and spent 15 years in private practice as an associate and then a partner at a large law firm. She has trained many new attorneys to become experts in legal analysis and argument.

Jennie has also worked as a teacher of expository and creative writing, an editor and proofreader, and an advisor to enlisted Army personnel on the college admissions process. She has more than a decade of experience in publishing and has published numerous articles, including a law review article that received the Burton Award for Legal Achievement—a recognition of excellent legal writing that abandons “legalese” in favor of clarity and plain language.


  • B.A., magna cum laude, from the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, with a major in English through the Creative Writing Program.
  • M.A. from the University of Oregon in English Literature.
  • J.D., magna cum laude, from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College.
